mecom

mecom Medien Communications-Gesellschaft was founded in 1989 by a group of news agencies. The news agencies’ aim in founding mecom was to transmit their news and images to their customers fast, simultaneously and via satellite. Today, mecom not only works for the major news agencies, but also for media outlets, public authorities and companies.

mecom is a joint venture of the news agencies German Press Agency (dpa), Agence France-Presse (AFP), Gemeinschaftswerk der Evangelischen Publizistik (GEP), Katholische Nachrichten-Agentur (KNA) and dpa-AFX Wirtschaftsnachrichten. dpa Group is mecom’s majority shareholder.

In cases of emergency, the ability to quickly alert the population is of crucial importance. That’s why mecom develops and operates the Modular Warning System (MoWaS) for the Federal Republic of Germany.

This Modular Warning System, unique in Germany, enables lifesavers in the federal, state and county governments to disseminate official warnings to the public in the event of a crisis or disaster. The alerts are distributed via alerting apps, media, cell broadcast and many other channels.

Reliable transmissions for news professionals

News agencies transmit a multitude of reports, images and sound bites to their customers – every day, around the clock. This information must reach print media, broadcasters and other recipients in real time, in the best quality, and in a tamper-proof and fail-safe manner. With our satellite and terrestrial networks, we ensure that these requirements are met.

User-oriented archive and
portal applications

Web portals are a convenient way to access extensive databases or archives quickly and easily. With our many years of expertise in building complex technical infrastructures with thousands of users, we support our customers in consulting, developing and operating these applications.
